Product Description

Ceramic Fiber Tape is a narrow, woven fabric engineered from high-purity Aluminosilicate ceramic fibers. Designed for extreme thermal environments, it serves as a flexible heat shield, thermal insulation wrap, and high-temperature sealing solution.

Key Technical Specifications

  • Composition: High-purity aluminosilicate fibers (typically ~51% SiO2 ~45% Al2O3) combined with organic binder fibers.
  • Temperature Limits:
    • Continuous Operating Temperature: Up to 1,000°C (1800°C)
    • Maximum Peak / Short-Term Temperature: Up to 1,260°C (2,300°F)
  • Reinforcement Options:
    • Fiberglass Filament Reinforcement: For standard electrical and thermal insulation (usable up to ~650°C for the insertion material).
    • Inconel / Stainless Steel Wire Reinforcement: Provides enhanced tensile strength, mechanical durability, and structural stability at extreme temperatures.
  • Density: ~550 kg/m³
  • Standard Dimensions:
    • Thickness: Commonly  3mm
    • Width: 50mm
    • Length: 10m.
      Custom length available.

Core Physical & Chemical Properties

  • Thermal Insulation: Features exceptionally low thermal conductivity and minimal heat retention.
  • Thermal Shock & Flame Resistance: Incombustible, highly resistant to sudden temperature changes, and acts as an effective fireproof barrier.
  • Chemical Stability: Unaffected by most corrosive chemicals, acids, and alkalis. (Exceptions: Hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and concentrated alkalis.)
  • Molten Metal Resistance: Resists erosion from molten non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and zinc.
  • Flexibility & Mechanical Strength: Lightweight and easy to cut, wrap, or sew around complex shapes, pipes, and flanges.

Product Variations

  1. Standard Woven Tape: Plain weave tape used for general wrapping and insulation.
  2. Ladder / Drop Warp Tape (Bolt Hole Tape): Center warp yarns are omitted to allow easy bolting through flange joints without punching holes.
  3. Self-Adhesive (PSA) Backing: Includes a pressure-sensitive adhesive strip on one side for temporary positioning during installation. (Note: The organic adhesive burns off at higher temperatures.)
  4. Wire-Reinforced Tape: Stainless steel or alloy wire woven into the tape for elevated tensile strength.

Primary Applications

  • Pipe & Exhaust Wrapping: Thermal insulation for steam lines, high-temperature gas ducts, and engine exhaust manifolds.
  • Gaskets & Door Seals: Fireproof seals for boiler doors, industrial oven access hatches, kilns, and expansion joints.
  • Cable & Hose Protection: Safety wrapping for electrical wiring, hydraulic lines, and fuel lines exposed to high heat or slag.
  • Welding Curtains & Heat Shields: Protective barriers during high-heat welding, cutting, and metal casting operations.

Important Usage Note (Burn-Out Phase):
Ceramic fiber textiles contain ~15% organic carrier fibers to assist in the weaving process. During initial heating (around 200°C–300°C), these organic binders will burn off, producing mild smoke and temporary discoloration (turning dark before turning white again). This reaction is completely normal and does not degrade the thermal performance of the ceramic fibers. Heat-cleaned, pre-treated versions are available for smoke-sensitive environments.
