Self-adhesive aluminium tape (also known as foil tape or self-adhesive aluminum foil tape) is a pressure-sensitive, highly durable jointing and sealing material. It features a soft aluminum foil backing coated with an aggressive, cold-weather or high-temperature acrylic or rubber-based adhesive, protected by a silicone-coated release liner.

Key Properties & Technical Specifications

. Backing Material: Pure aluminum foil (often reinforced with glass fiber mesh or thread in reinforced versions).

 . Adhesive Types:
-Solvent Acrylic: High temperature resistance, excellent long-term                      UV/aging resistance, and strong chemical resistance.
-Synthetic Rubber / Hot Melt: Higher initial tack (grip) at room                           temperature, ideal for general-purpose quick sealing.
. Temperature Resistance: Typically ranges from–30 to+120℃                          (specialized industrial grades withstand up to (+150℃ to 300℃).
. Vapor & Moisture Barrier: 100% water, steam, and vapor proof when properly burnished onto a clean surface.

. Flame & Thermal Resistance: Class 0 / Flame retardant; reflects heat and light efficiently.

1. Standard Widths

  • 2 Inches (50 mm): Most common size for general pipe wrapping, light duct joints, and craft/repair work.

  • 3 Inches (75 mm): Standard size for commercial HVAC ductwork, insulation panel sealing, and jointing.

Main Types of Aluminium Tape

1.Standard Plain Aluminium Foil Tape: Smooth foil surface;                highly conformable for wrapping pipes, sealing sheet metal, and               ductwork joints.
2. Reinforced (Threaded / Fiber Mesh) Aluminium Tape:                   Reinforced with a fiberglass mesh scrim to prevent tearing under              tension. Best for heavy-duty HVAC insulation jacket sealing.
3. High-Temperature Aluminium Tape: Formulated with high-spec              acrylic or silicone adhesives for high-heat industrial exhaust or engine bay       heat-shielding.

Core Applications

1. HVAC & Ductwork (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning)

. Joint Sealing: Creates airtight, moisture-proof seals on rigid metal ducts, flexible air ducts, and duct board systems.
. Thermal Insulation: Joining fiberglass wool, rockwool, and closed-cell foam insulation wrap facing (FSK facing) to prevent thermal loss and condensation.

2. Refrigeration & Cold Storage

  • Seals cooling coils and vapor barriers in refrigerators, walk-in freezers, and cold rooms to maintain thermal integrity and prevent icing.

3. General Repairs & Construction

.  Fast sealing of metal gutters, roofing flashings, downspouts, and sheet metal      seams.

. Pipe insulation wrap protection against weathering and UV degradation.

4. Electrical & Heat Shielding

. Reflects heat away from heat-sensitive components in machinery, automotive engine bays, and industrial appliances.
. Provides light EMI/RFI shielding in electronics assemblies.

Application & Surface Preparation Guidelines

1. Surface Cleaning: The application surface must be dry, clean, and completely free of dust, grease, rust, or oil for maximum adhesive bond.
2. Pressure Burnishing: Apply firm, even pressure using a plastic squeegee or roller over the tape after application. This forces the adhesive into microscopic surface contours, eliminating air bubbles and ensuring a complete vapor seal.
3.Application Temperature: Apply at temperatures above 10℃ (50°F) for optimal initial adhesion, though solvent acrylic variants can bond in lower temperatures once burnished.
